SINAPS (Scientific Initiative for Neuropsychiatric and Psychopharmacolgical Studies) is a research center founded by the Psychiatric Hospital Duffel (PZD) and psychiatric research department of the University of Antwerp, CAPRI (Collaborative Antwerp Psychiatric Research Institute). CAPRI is one of the 13 departments of the Faculty of Medicine and Mental Health at the University of Antwerp and was founded in 2002. The Psychiatric Hospital Duffel (PZD) and the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) signed a collaboration agreement in 2011, forming the joint venture 'University Hospital of Psychiatry". This joint venture was officially recognized in 2012 by royal decree. Together with this official recognition, a research platform was created between CAPRI and PZD, aiming to stimulate a partnership with external partners, such as pharmaceutical companies and CROs, and to facilitate communication with psychiatric patients. This platform expanded, professionalized and fused with the lines of academic research at the University Hospital of Psychiatry and was renamed SINAPS.
